Our school is delighted to take part in the town’s Heritage Weekend and we’d like to invite you to come along to our exhibition in the Youth Centre and see how everyday school life has changed over the 20th century. At the start of the century, girls and boys were taught in entirely separate schools and only over time did they come together. The school name, uniform and buildings have changed several times over the years and there will be a display of the various plans and photographs to show some of the changes. Past essays from pupils, sketches and poetry will also be on display with examples of subjects, extra-curricular clubs, drama and music productions too. Examples of how pupils coped through the wars and later, how the schools managed the comprehensive system during the 1970s. There will be a special display about the history of the Girls High School with many examples of their work found in the annual school magazines. Several notable pupils have also been identified from the past and we have news about how two of them in particular helped to save the school from closure.
