Morpeth Pantomime 2023

31st January 2023Alana Whenary

A huge thank you to our Tech Crew for their hard work and determination through 10 days of rehearsals and performances for Morpeth Pantomime last week.

This has been the first year that Lee has directed for Morpeth, who has a significant level of experience working at other theatres and with other groups in the North East. He was incredibly complimentary about their performance and professionalism.

In addition the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA), had their regional representative to watch the Saturday Matinee and reported that “The colourful backcloths and stage props were very well managed by Beth Marriott and the crew; seamlessly and effortlessly done. Furthermore, a big shout-out to the technical team from King Edwards for superb effects which contributed to the success of this show. “

Congratulations to all involved!

A huge thank you to all students, parents and staff who responded so generously to this year’s collection for Wansbeck Foodbank.  The response this year has been fantastic.  Food poverty continues to be a significant challenge for so many in our community and more than ever they need our help.

We are acutely aware that the work of the food bank can only continue with the support of local people.  Please see here for more information.

Students Musical Advent Calendar in Aid of RNLI

6th December 2022Alana Whenary

Year 9 student Helen Graham and her younger brother Arthur both love the water and are keen sailors. Over the years they have raised over £4,000 for the RNLI, by busking and in the last 2 years by their musical advent calendars.

Last year their musical advent calendar raised over £1,600 for the RNLI, and they would love to smash their record this year. In return, each day they will be uploading a musical performance each day, and hopefully spread some Christmas Cheer.  Please see their Just Giving page here if you wish to donate.

Headteacher Clare Savage commented “This is a wonderful idea and we are so proud of these hugely talented students.”

A huge congratulations to our Senior Boys Cross Country team (Matthew Walton, James Tilley, Bertie Marr, Liam Roche, Ryan Davies and Will De Vere Owen) who competed in the ESAA Cross Country Cup National final held at The Grammar School at Leeds on Saturday 3rd December 2022.

This is the second year in succession that the boys have finished on the podium in third place at this national competition. They were racing against a strong field made up of twenty-six other school teams from all over England and finished with a combined team points total of 80 points, only 11 points off second place.

All of the King Edward School squad are club members of Morpeth Harriers & AC and have shown once again what hard work, dedication, teamwork and putting in the miles can achieve. You should all be very proud of your individual and collective performance!
