Thank you to the huge number of parents/carers and students who joined us last week at our Supporting Your Child evening where teaching staff shared useful information about important next steps in the move from the Key Stage 3 curriculum to Key Stage 4. Please find the subject presentations here.
Morpeth’s One Big Performance, supported by Music Partnership North, involved first and middle schools and the King Edward VI School high school – more than 400 children in total.
Held in a large marquee on the Newminster Middle School field, each school performed to each other and there were joint activities throughout the day that involved all children in a massed ceilidh and choir, body percussion fun and a quiz.
Charlotte Jones, curriculum leader of the creative arts at Newminster Middle School, who was one of the organisers of the event, said: “It was a very special day that combined a love of music with our community. The pupils who performed were a credit to their schools and the talent on show was incredible!

Huge congratulations to Year 10 Student Alan Young, who won The Northumberland School’s U16 boys Gross competition, held at Ponteland Golf Club on Tuesday 16th May. This will hopefully qualify Alan for The North of England Schools Championships to be held at Cleckheaton Golf Club, Bradford during May half term.

Year 11 Rewards Evenings
Last week we celebrated our Y11 students achievements at our annual Y11 Rewards Evenings. These evenings are a well-established tradition, celebrating the endeavours, accomplishments and achievements of all of our Year 11 students. They have excelled in so many fields and it was fantastic to hear of their successes throughout each evening. All students received awards for a variety of achievements from Services to school, the arts, sport, subject progress, attitude to learning and attendance.
Rewards were presented by our guest speaker Simon Taylor OBE and throughout each evening we were also treated to fantastic musical and dance performances from current Year 11 students.

The evening ended with Ms Clare Savage, Headteacher leading thanks to tutors and parents for their support but also to our fantastic Year 11 for the significant contribution they have made to our school during their time with us.
Overall, the evening was a huge success and there was an enormous sense of pride in the room. The evening was a true celebration of all that represents The King Edward VI School.

Sophie has been involved in many extra curricular activities; as a member of the ceilidh band, the concert band and the Steel Pan band. She is also a member of the school Choir and Chamber choir. Congratulations to Jacob Light in Year 10 who has been selected to represent England at the U15 World School Games in Brazil this August. A fantastic achievement.

Our Senior Students; Alice, Beth, Chris and Finlay, supported by Ms Familton, hosted our annual Celebration Evening on Tuesday 9 May. The evening is a well-established tradition in Sixth Form, celebrating the endeavours, accomplishments and achievements of Year 13 students. Of course, as the evening was hosted by the students, there was the odd humorous comment thrown in for good measure!

The tradition of prize giving within King Edward’s is a long one, many of the trophies that are awarded have a long and esteemed history. Some awards have been donated by former students and staff, who are proud of their association with the school and want that legacy to continue. Others are proudly supported by The Foundation Governors, The Edwardians and Piramal. In addition a progress and achievement award is given for all subjects.

Overall, the evening was a huge success and there was an enormous sense of pride in the room. The evening lived up to its name and was a true celebration of the year group, the Sixth Form and all that represents The King Edward VI School.

Well done to the three KEVI golfers who last week represented the school very well at The County Team Championships held at Longhirst Hall Golf Club. A very enjoyable day had by all.

George Ovenden – Year 9
Daniel Hourigan – Year 12
Alan Young – Year 10

Year 10 student, Seb Parreira, was in France over the Bank holiday weekend competing in a 24 hour kart race at Le Mans. Seb was part of a five-driver team, competing against other teams from the UK, Europe and the USA. The race took place on the Le Mans International circuit, which is a really fast track with average lap speeds of around 70 mph. After 1338 laps, 18 pit stops and some challenging mechanical issues late on, Seb took the chequered flag to give his team the Clubman class win and +2 laps up on the kart in second place!
Congratulations to Seb and the team on such a great result – can’t have been easy driving for 24 hours continuously!

Oliver Calvert has just represented England and finished 5th at the SIAB (Schools International Athletics Board) Cross Country Championships in Liverpool! A massive achievement considering he’s racing with those in the year above him as well.
