GCSE exams have now begun and students will attend school as normal until Friday 27 May. Prior to study leave students should continue to register as normal with their tutor before any morning exam. Friday 27 May will be the last time that the students are in school as a full year group and we will mark this occasion by holding a small celebration event immediately after their final exam.
Finally, on behalf of all at The King Edward VI School can I take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to all Year 11 students and wish them the very best success in the forthcoming examinations and for the future. We are really looking forward to seeing the students who are returning to our Sixth Form in September.Â
For those not returning, we wish you all the very best as you move on to new challenges. Please come back to see us and share your successes with us, not just next year but in years to come. The King Edward VI School is part of you and each of you will stay part of us. Thank you for all the contributions you have made to make the school what it is.
You are invited to our Transition Evening, which will take place at The King Edward VI School on Thursday 26 May 2022, from 5.30pm until 7.00pm.Â

This term we will spend some time in school further developing our Relationships and Sex education provision, to enable our students to more fully understand the challenges that they face growing up in today’s society.
Assemblies next week will focus on sexual harassment, with a particular focus on online abuse. Following the assembly, students will be given an opportunity (via Google Classroom) to complete a questionnaire which will give us an insight into the experiences of teenagers in our school. This is an optional survey, but I am keen that we receive as many completed versions as possible, to further inform our curriculum, teaching and supervision arrangements.Â
In addition to the work we are doing in school, I encourage you to explore this topic with your child. This link to the Children’s Commissioner website provides helpful information that could form the basis of your discussions.

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, set
out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April. In
line with this, the DfE has updated the specific advice for schools which we
will follow from Monday 25 April, following the Easter break.
The key principle of the updated guidance is that Covid is to be managed in
the same way as other respiratory illnesses. The UK Health Security Agency
(UKHSA) health protection in education and childcare settings, contains an
alphabetic list of infectious diseases.
We will be holding a non – uniform day on Friday 8 April.
We would encourage all students to contribute £1 which will be forwarded to the Disasters Emergency Committee to provide Humanitarian Aid for the millions of Ukrainians seeking sanctuary in other countries.
Parents are able to pay this amount via School Gateway or alternatively, students can bring £1 into school and give this to their tutor.
The letter issued to all parents/carers can be read in full here.
Thank you to all parents who completed the uniform consultation earlier this year. As expected, there were a range of views expressed. We have noted the opinions of all stakeholders and are proposing the new uniform policy which can be found here.Â
We will now hold a further consultation period around this draft policy and would ask for any feedback to be emailed to [email protected] marked Uniform Consultation by 4pm on Monday 25 April.
