Year 9 student Helen Graham and her younger brother Arthur both love the water and are keen sailors. Over the years they have raised over ÂŁ4,000 for the RNLI, by busking and in the last 2 years by their musical advent calendars.
Last year their musical advent calendar raised over £1,600 for the RNLI, and they would love to smash their record this year. In return, each day they will be uploading a musical performance each day, and hopefully spread some Christmas Cheer. Please see their Just Giving page here if you wish to donate.
Headteacher Clare Savage commented “This is a wonderful idea and we are so proud of these hugely talented students.”
A huge congratulations to our Senior Boys Cross Country team (Matthew Walton, James Tilley, Bertie Marr, Liam Roche, Ryan Davies and Will De Vere Owen) who competed in the ESAA Cross Country Cup National final held at The Grammar School at Leeds on Saturday 3rd December 2022.
This is the second year in succession that the boys have finished on the podium in third place at this national competition. They were racing against a strong field made up of twenty-six other school teams from all over England and finished with a combined team points total of 80 points, only 11 points off second place.
All of the King Edward School squad are club members of Morpeth Harriers & AC and have shown once again what hard work, dedication, teamwork and putting in the miles can achieve. You should all be very proud of your individual and collective performance!
You can order your Christmas lunches now!
Several King Edward’s Students found out about the range of post-16 options available to them at the inclusive My Future Options Careers Event.
The event is exclusively for young people with additional needs including those with special educational needs and was set up specifically for young people in the county to support them in their journey into post-16 education, employment and training.
Thank you to all parents, carers and students who attended this event. If you would like to review the presentations for English, Maths and Science, please visit our KS4 Exam Preparation website here where you will find the presentation from the evening, important dates for Year 11 as well as curriculum overviews for all subjects to support revision.
Congratulations to our Year 10 student Ollie Calvert who came first in the Under 15 Junior Great North Run in September. We are very proud of his success and well done to all students, staff, parents and carers who took part in this event earlier in the term.
In World War One, 58 Old Boys and one member of staff paid the supreme sacrifice. Most of them found their last place of rest far from home: in Belgium, in France, in Gallipoli, in Poland, at sea; many of them have no known graves.
In the Second World War, by a strange coincidence, yet another 58 Old Boys perished in War – this time together with two members of staff. Only a few of them are buried in the UK. The remainder lie in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany, in Iceland and Italy, in Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, in Burma and in Singapore. Again, many have no known grave but the sea.
In the Korean War of 1953, one Old Boy was killed while fighting for the United Nations in the cause of world peace.
In gratitude for the service and sacrifice of all these young men – their average age was only 24 – Anya Dunphy took the reading and Mr Tedder read The Pride of the Poppy.
The service ended with the Last Post played on trumpet by Matthew Turner and Will Straughan supported by Ms Waterhouse.
Congratulations to Tom Nugent and Rebecca Murray in Year 11 who competed in the National Lifesaving Championships this weekend in the senior pairs.
They won two of the four individual events, aquatic and dry initiative, finishing first overall making them National Champions.
An amazing achievement. Well done to them both!
