KEVI’s Got Talent

18th July 2025Leanne Johnston

Our Senior Students organised an end of term talent show where our staff entertained students to raise money for MacMillan Nurses.

Showcasing their talents were:

  • Ms Tyley:  ‘Me and Mr Jones’ (Amy Winehouse)
  • Dr Fox: magicican
  • Mrs Anderson: comedic monologue
  • Ms Povey and Ms Ludbrook: ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ (Journey)
Other KEVI colleagues made up the judging panel and attributed scores.
In true KEVI style we raised over £200! A great way to end the term.

Eco Day 2025

11th July 2025Leanne Johnston

Our Year 9 Councillors have been a particularly active group this year, organising charity events and contributing to the school community; embracing their role as advocates and custodians of King Edward’s. With that in mind and supporting the values of Cheviot Learning Trust the Y9 Council, supported by our Senior Students, took part in an activity filled day of citizen science, learning about what we can do locally to improve our environment. This event was supported by NCC, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, and Morpeth Lions, as well as KEVI staff and past students!

Feedback from Mayor, Rachel Hogg was excellent. She really enjoyed being with the students, hearing their views. She was very impressed with their insights into youth provision in the town and is very keen to come back and have future sessions with them to let them have their say on the town. Deputy Mayor, long-time KEVI supporter and alumnus, Wendy thought this was the best event that we’d ever run; high praise indeed.
Our popular and active School Council is run by Sheila Clark, without whom none of these opportunities would be possible. The students really benefit from the experience, enthusiasm and wisdom Sheila brings – thank you.

First Aid Training

10th July 2025Leanne Johnston

For the fourth consecutive year, we have partnered with ‘I Can Save a Life’ to delivered basic first aid training to our Year 10 students. As part of our PSHE curriculum and statutory Health Education, each student in Year 10 has the opportunity to work with a professional trainer to gain new skills.

Students get to understand some basic first aid, including CPR and how to use a defibrillator. The students have engaged fantastically well with the sessions and have been a real credit to the school, impressing Wayne with their engagement and enthusiasm.

KEVI takes GOLD… again!

4th July 2025Leanne Johnston

Well done to the PE Department who have, again been recognised for their hard work and dedication. The team have such a passion for Sport and its many benefits, and have continued this year to create so many opportunities and experiences for our students.

Sportsmark Gold Status for 2024-2025 it the fourth year that King Edward’s PE Department have been recognised; not only for the breadth and sheer number opportunities but the truley inclusive nature of PE at KEVI and the amount of students who participate in enriching and extra curricular Sport.

The team are aiming for Platimum in 2026 when even more students can get involved with our improved facilities. Congratulations to all of the staff and students that contributed to this achievment – you really make us proud!

Drawing for the Planet

1st July 2025Leanne Johnston

Enrichmnet Week 2025 saw another artistic conservation collaboration with local artist Jane Lee McCracken and Drawing for the Planet. This is the third time students have worked with Jane following marine projects in Laguna Beach and tiger conservation in Asia. This time, students worked with Jane on a project linked to conservation in the Amazon Rainforest.

The project features drawings of Amazonian wildlife created by our talented Year 9 students. They look stunning! https://drawingfortheplanet.org/pages/brazilian-and-peruvian-amazonian-wildlife
