Spirit of the Season

Students and staff have given generousy over this week, in the spitit of Christmas. We had a fantastic collection for Wansbeck Valley Foodbank and were overwhelemed by the volume of donations.

This continued with our annual Christmas Jumper non-uniform day on Thursday 19 December. Students enjoyed a festive lunch and raised over £400 for Save the Children. Donations can still be made via MCAS.

Year 9 School Council members organised their very own bake sale; the students coordinated volunteers from across the year group to bake, donate and sell cakes. The Year 9 students raised over £100 for their nominated charity; Christian Aid.

Christmas Communion

The RE department took 38 students to Durham Cathedral on Wednesday 18 December. The students were welcomed into the Cathedral and had the opportunity to explore a major place of Christian worship and pilgrimage, learning about the story of St Cuthbert and the origins of Christianity in the North-East, as well as seeing the practices they have been learning about including attending the service. A really good and valuable day for all involved.

KEVI Christmas Cracker

Parents and members of our community were treated to a wonderful evening’s entertainment last Friday at our annual Christmas Cracker.
We were treated to wonderful performances from KEVI Jazz Band, Ceilidh Band and Concert Orchestra as well as renditions from our steel pans.  Performances were interspersed with quiz rounds prepared by our senior students and the evening concluded with a stella performance by our wonderful; choir

North East Secondary Teams Championships

English Schools Swimming Association – North East Secondary Teams Championships
Congratulations to KEVI Intermediate Girls A team on their success at the English Schools Swimming Association – North East Secondary Teams Championships on Thursday 10 October 2024.
The team placed silver in the 4x50m Medley Relay and were Bronze medal winners in the 4x50m Freestyle relay.
Some of the team met with the Headteacher to receive their medals where she congratulated them on their fantastic achievement.

KEVI Student MYP

Year 9 student, Emily has the privilege and responsibility of being elected to the UK Youth Parliament. 

In October, Emily attended Warwick University to participate in the annual conference where there were lots of debates. The MYPs were updating their manifesto as part of the conference. As part of the conference, Emily got to meet MYPs from all over the country, sharing their experiences and ideas. 

Emily, and her peer peer James, MYP at RGS Sixth Form, have been supported by Ben, the participation lead at Northumberland County Council.  Emily will be able to visit the Houses of Commons in February 2025 to debate and discuss the motions they passed in the manifesto that they created at the annual conference in October. 

 

Musical Advent Calendar for the RNLI 2024

Year 11 student Helen and her younger brother Arthur who is in Year 9 both love the water and are keen sailors and are raising money again this year for the RNLI.

Over the years they have raised over £10,000 for the R.N.L.I., by busking and in the last 4 years by their musical advent calendars.

Last year it raised over £2700 for the RNLI, and they would love to smash their record this year.   In return, each day they will be uploading a musical performance, and hopefully spread some Christmas Cheer. Please see their Just Giving page if you wish to donate. 

Headteacher Clare Savage commented “It is great to see this pair in musical action again. We are so proud of these hugely talented students. They have set their target to £2000 which would take their total fundraising for the RNLI to £12,000 ”
