Student Amy on the Long List for the Youth Olympics 2023

30th September 2022Andrew Baxter

Our student Amy had a busy summer training and working as well as doing her PE and art graphics coursework. She also had some amazing news that she’s on the long list to go to the Youth Olympics in January 2023 in Italy. Only 4 girls and 4 boys, under 18, will represent GB in alpine skiing at this event. We are absolutely thrilled for her. Well done Amy!

Year 11 Virtual Parents Evening

28th September 2022Mrs L Rayne

Our parents’ evening will be held in a virtual format on a programme which works along the  same principle as video conferencing software such as Zoom or Google Meet. We believe this  is the best option, as it gives parents the opportunity to meet and see staff.

Appointments will be limited to five minutes, so please be aware that the system actually  cuts the connection after this time. Should there be any connection issues, these will be  followed up by the school the next day

King Edward’s Pride as Former Student Acts as Queen’s Pallbearer

26th September 2022Andrew Baxter

Former student David Sanderson was one of eight Grenadier Guards to carry the Queen on her final journey.

David attended The King Edward Vl school before leaving at 16 to join the Army Foundation College in Harrogate. By the time he was 17 David was stationed at the regimental headquarters of the Grenadier Guards at Wellington barracks, first joining the second battalion and then moving to the first battalion, the Queen’s Division, like his late grandfather.

19-year-old David was selected to be one of the eight soldiers from the Queen’s Company 1st Battalion, Grenadier Guards, who bore the oak casket in both London and Windsor. David was positioned at the front on the right-hand side of the casket.

The enormity of the role is hard to comprehend and the soldiers have been praised for carrying out their duty while watched by billions around the world. The dignity and poise shown by David throughout that service was hugely impressive and the school community is so proud of his achievement.

Her Majesty the Queen

9th September 2022Andrew Baxter

Our school community paid tribute this morning to the country’s longest serving monarch. Her Majesty’s service over the past seven decades has been an inspiration.

During the period of mourning our public communications will be limited.

We appreciate this news will be upsetting for some and pastoral support will be available in school for those that need it.

As you will be aware, Monday 19 September is designated as a Bank Holiday for the State Funeral of the Queen. School will therefore be closed to all staff and students on this day, reopening as usual on Tuesday 20 September.
